About the Job

What the customer faced:

A retail unit with two problems that both landed on the manager at once: the staff door's mortice lock had worn to the point the door needed a shoulder to latch, and the folding grille across the entrance was jamming in its floor track at closing time — leaving staff wrestling with it after dark.

What we did:

Both were dealt with in one out-of-hours visit, timed after closing so trading wasn't touched. The staff door got a new mortice case and euro cylinder, fitted and aligned so it latches on its own weight; the grille's floor pivot was cleared, refitted and adjusted so it runs home without a fight. Written record of parts and work supplied for head office.

How the visit went:

  • Call — both doors described, visit timed after closing
  • Fixed quote agreed on the phone
  • Exact ETA confirmed on the call
  • Doors assessed, parts priced in writing
  • Work done and documented — payment at completion

What you get:

  • Out-of-hours visits that don't touch trading time
  • Written quotes and records for your files
  • One price, day or evening
  • 12-month workmanship guarantee
  • DBS-checked, ID shown at the door

Locked Out or Need a Locksmith Today?

The job in detail

Retail managers rarely call about one problem — they call when the second one arrives. Here it was a staff door whose worn mortice lock needed a shoulder to latch, and a folding entrance grille that had started jamming in its floor track at closing time, leaving whoever locked up wrestling with it in an empty shopping centre.

The visit was booked for after closing so no trading time was lost. The staff door came first: the old mortice case was worn past adjustment, so a new case and euro cylinder went in, with the keep re-aligned so the door latches on its own weight — the difference between staff actually locking a door and staff giving up on it. Every part was named and priced in writing before fitting.

The grille was mechanical rather than mysterious: its floor pivot socket had collected years of grit and the leading edge had dropped, so each panel was climbing out of line as it folded. The socket was cleared and refitted, the pivot adjusted, and the grille run home a dozen times until it closed with one hand. The manager got a written record of parts and work for head office — the paperwork side matters as much as the metal on commercial jobs. Fixed quote agreed on the phone, total price, no VAT added.
