What the customer faced:
Completion day on a period house, and a handful of keys from the estate agent with no way of knowing how many copies were out there — previous owners, tradespeople, cleaners, neighbours. The new owners wanted every external door on fresh keys before the first night.
What we did:
Every external lock was measured and changed the same afternoon: a British Standard BS 8621 sash lock and new euro cylinder on the front door, and a thumbturn cylinder on the back so it unlocks from inside without a key. Each lock was named and priced in writing before fitting, and every old key stopped working by evening.

The job in detail
The keys handed over on completion day told their own story: four different cylinders, one bent mortice key, and no way of knowing how many copies had been cut over the years. The new owners of the period house called mid-morning and wanted to sleep that night behind locks nobody else had keys to.
Each door got what it actually needed rather than a one-size-fits-all swap. The navy front door took a new ERA sash lock certified to BS 8621 — the standard insurers ask about — with a fresh euro cylinder sitting flush to the escutcheon so there is nothing proud to grip. The back door got a thumbturn cylinder: locked from outside with a key, opened from inside with a twist, which matters on the door a family would use in a hurry.
Every part was named and priced in writing before it was fitted, and the drilling and chiselling was kept clean — a period door deserves better than splinters around a new faceplate. By early evening every external door was on fresh keys, the old keys were dead, and the total was the figure agreed on the phone that morning. Labour from £59 per lock, total price — no VAT added.
